“YoungJu Kim is a wonderfully brilliant and delightfully unique artist and designer…” – Grant Overstake, Author/Publisher Grain Valley Publishing
My name is YoungJu Kim (M.F.A, Illustration, Savannah College of Art and Design), originally from South Korea, who currently lives in Vienna, VA.
My images are often executed in water based medium/digital on wood and use wood grain as an element of the composition. It’s a process of turning ‘abstract’ into ‘figurative form.’ Thus my paintings finally engage with certain sensitivity and create a unique dream-like mood.
I have spent six years at a licensing company whose images appear at products of Target, Walmart, DaySpring Card, etc. as a freelance digital artist. I also spent three years at Reedsy as a children’s book illustrator and designer.
My works were also featured in the COEX Winter Festival, Gelsinger Licensing Group, Grain Valley Publishing, Applied Arts magazine, Rosengart Gallery Fine Art & Gifts, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrator(SCBWI) Southern Breeze, Illustration West by Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles, CMYK, 3×3 Children’s Show Annual, Creative Quarterly, What’s Up Annapolis, Savannah College of Art and Design, Telfair Art Fair, and so on. I worked for American Greetings, Working Class Studio SCAD, and Deep Center as an intern as well.
